First Fall with Your Baby: San Diego Edition
Ok, but seriously our fall is like an extended summer here in San Diego. We don’t really get a “cool” season in fall. It’s just dry and hot. Our winter is really like a fall, and we just get completely skipped over for a winter 😂
Fall for us was typically “fire” season while I was growing up. I remember schools being closed in the beginning of the school year because of the weather quality. Now a days fire season is just turning into a year long “season".” So honestly fall just seems like a lead up to the holidays with nothing super special about it (I mean I get that it’s always been a lead up to the holidays, but on the east coast at least they get changing foliage and crisp air).
Staying in San Diego
LAYERS, layers, layers.
Especially along the coast, it will for sure get chilly. So bundling up with a onesie, sweater/jacket, hat, pants, and socks/shoes is a must for baby (same for yourself, and always have one to two blankets with you for the little one). Inland area, similar to the coast, especially if you’re in any of the valleys inland since wind can be a lot sometimes. Mountains would be similar to the coast, albeit a bit cooler. Deserts, surprisingly (although not really if you’ve been to the desert at all during desert season) it gets REAL cold at night and October is typically the beginning of desert season so it has some pretty big temperature swings.
During fall it’ll typically warm up a bit during the day so having those layers that you’re able to take off is a necessity so little one doesn’t over heat. Once the evening rolls around, it begins to cool down again pretty quickly.
And it’s legit like, bundled up in the morning, shorts and flip flops in the afternoon, and then bundled up again in the evening. California is ridiculous.
Traveling to somewhere where there’s an actual fall season
Remember to bring an umbrella, you’re not in CA anymore and other places typically have rain in the cooler months.
Layers again are your best friend and the best bet. Remember as well, I’m a Southern California native who hasn’t really lived anywhere other than a week here or there for vacation places 😂 So all of this is really based on personal experience. I am always open to learning new/more things about everything so if you have solid recommendations, please feel free to comment!!
Boots are also your BFF for those crisp days. Scarves, beanies/hats, lined leggings. Anything you’re wearing, put baby in (or at least something comparable) and then add one layer and keep one to two extra blankets with you just in case the temperature changes rapidly or one gets diry/wet.
